Drastic times call for drastic measures!

Goodbye TV! We love you, but it is time for a little time-out. The problem is that we love you a little too much. Our lives somewhat revolved around your schedule, our family room was situated to make you the center of attention and we just spent a little too much time in your company. I know that it is season premiere week, but if not now, when? It will never be a "good time". You will be safe in the garage, all wrapped up and cozy in your moving blanket, until such a time when we decide that you can come back in with more limitations or determine to find you a new home because we can, in fact, truly live without you. The kids are going to miss you the most. Dylan cried as I took you outside and Jesse and Grace will be surprised to find you gone when they return from school. There will most assuredly be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth! I'm not quite sure what Danny's reaction will be! But it really is better this way. This family lacks the discipline that we need to not let you run our lives...so we bid you adieu for a time. Maybe we will see you again someday...or maybe not!

We just adopted a no-TV-on-weekdays policy recently and so far I am LOVING it. Who knew?

ya, i'm up for the no tv on weekdays but not your drastic measures! Kyle has taken the tv out and put in in storage before when Isaac was acting like a monster for turning it off and now things are much better (the kids don't want it to happen again). Good luck! We don't have tv issues here anymore, but we have plenty of other issues!
I'll think of you while I watch the season premier of Heroes:)

Funny! I am not a big fan of TV either - I just refuse to get extended cable because my girls just can't get enough of Disney Channel - they think I am a mean mom but oh well. They can watch it when they go to my moms. Kids fight less and they are so much more productive when they don't have TV. They read more, play with each other more and practice their piano and get their homework done. So many pluses...good luck! You can hook the TV up when they go to bed at night :)

Wow, that was brave! I'm impressed. I actually grew up in a home that didn't watch TV (we still had a VCR so we could see appropriate movies, but not TV). I'm no worse for it I think, and I think we'll probably adopt the same thing for our family, too, because it's such a waste of time! Besides, my only shows are AI and SYTYCD anyway. Good luck--I hope it works!

I loved reading you post. You are a very good writer by the way. And I think it is great you took out the TV. We are cutting ours back too. We don't get any channels here so we can only watch movies and I have made it a rule that they only come out during quite time. It has made such a difference in our home.

We have unplugged days sometimes too. We don't use the TV, computer or Wii. I love those days! We find time to play together! I hope that it goes well.

I lied.
I got sick for 2 days and our movie "tickets" (the kids get 2 a day) went out the movie while MR. mom was in charge. Can't blame him. But when I awoke from my slumber 2 days later, the tv monster Isaac was there to greet me. I told him what you did to your tv and threatened to do the same to his. We'll see what happens:)

I'm sure the kids are thinking... "TV, God be with you til we meet again!"

wow! i've been tempted to do that so many times, but honestly i think it would be just as hard for me and scott as it would for the kids!

i love your projects you've been doing, by the way. they look really great. you're motivating me to work on some home decor as well.
