Impressions of New Mexico

I wanted to wait until I had pictures for this post, but that is not happening anytime soon...so here goes nothing.
We flew into Albuquerque two weeks ago to secure Housing for our little family and I was expecting the worst. Basically, I was not expecting to like it very much, but I was resigned to my fate and was going to make the best of it. You see, when we began this whole MBA adventure, we had decided that we would go wherever the best opportunity was and where the Lord wanted us. Now, of course, there were places that I would have preferred to go; North Carolina, South Carolina, really most any of the southern states where it was warm and green. Then there were the places that were never really even considered like Michigan, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, etc. And by all means the places that I preferred not to go to...New Mexico being at the top of that list.
Well, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find some green and trees as we made our final approach into the area. The Rio Grande river runs through Abq (abbreviated...that's just too long of a word!) and it brought a welcome sight to this girl that really expected to find nothing but brown as far as the eye could see. So really it wasn't all that bad. That being said, the area that we are moving to is quite brown. We did find a nice house to rent in a new subdivision just a few miles from Intel, which is such a blessing with gas prices and such. However, the back yard consists of rocks and dirt. Not my idea of a nice place to play...nevertheless, we will be calling it home for the next while.
Although I have to live with brown everywhere, I can drive a short distance and enjoy the green along the river. We are excited about the new opportunity that lies ahead and we are so very grateful that we found something so quickly after having our lives turned upside down. Our car and belongings are still in Michigan, but now we are hopeful that they will just send them to NM seeing as though Danny starts work a week from tomorrow. We should know more tomorrow (hopefully!)

So glad there's some green somewhere there, even if you do have to drive a bit to see it. Is it very hot? SOOOO hot here, as you can imagine. Sure hope your stuff arrives soon! Can't wait to see pictures of your place when you get up and running!

So glad you guys found a place. Once Danny gets working making some money you can have green all the time and install the artificial grass. That stuff is awesome... green all the time... no maintenance... no allergies... lower water bills... eco friendly... can't beat it. Then you will always have some green. We miss you guys. Call soon with the new address and number. Love you.

well, I'm glad to hear you found a place and I'll keep my fingers crossed that your stuff arrives quickly. I'm glad to hear you like some of this Querque area. We might have the opportunity (if you call it that) to be in Querque next year. HP is opening up a contact center there and Brett is highly interested in being a part of that. He also likes the idea of being able to hike those mountains and having some snow fall so he can go skiin at some of the resorts. I, like you, am not too keen on the idea of NM because I just think brown but my sister-in-law has been there for 2 years now and she says its not that bad. Right?

Wow - what an adventure this has been for you guys. Hopefully everything works out okay - that's nice that you found a place close to Danny's work. Post pictures soon! Actually, never mind - that's probably the last thing on your "to-do" list after having just moved.

I heard this country song today and it said, "If you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans." It made me laugh because it is so true. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I just looked at the calendar. I hope you have a good one!

That's great that you found a place so quickly, and close to work is always a HUGE plus! Good luck getting your stuff and hope you find more and more to love about the area--you'll have to go up to Taos--I have some vague, but good, memories about the Indian Fry Bread there from when I went as a kid.

I felt the same way about our MBA experience, but had that same hope that we would go where we wanted to go. We didn't, and I hated Seattle for a year or two, but then came to love it. I hope you will find the same love for NM. And I can't wait to hear about the adventures that are waiting for you.
