So we spent the past few days getting all packed up and ready to move. Danny's car is waiting for our arrival in MI and all of our worldly possessions are packed onto a semi trailer and are somewhere around Iowa at the moment enroute to MI. We had our boarding passes and were prepared to take off for our new life in Michigan when the rug was swiftly pulled out from under us. It may have been a bright, sunny day here in Happy Valley, but it was a dark day indeed for the Thatcher family.
Allow me to explain...Last week Ford announced that they were going to be laying off 10% of their white collar workforce over the next couple of months. That made us a little nervous, so we put our house buying plans on hold and decided to play it safe by renting for a year to see how things go...well, today we received a dreaded phone call. Ford has decided that they are going to retract all offers of employment...in other words, we are out of a job. Yikes! So at the moment we are jobless, homeless and all of our belongings (minus a few suitcases) are almost to Michigan. We are now relying on the good graces of Danny's brother, Steve, and their family. It's a good thing for family, without them I'm not sure how we would weather this storm.
Our world has been turned upside down today, but hopefully things will turn for the better shortly. In the meantime, anyone know anybody hiring a recent MBA Supply Chain Grad...Let me know!

oh no, poppy, i'm so sorry! i can't believe this is happening. we'll be sure and keep you guys in our prayers.
You are KIDDING me!!!! Oh my. Could they at least warned you before you had your entire house shipped out there???
Man, you're in my prayers
my thought at the moment is whatever doesn't KILL us, makes us stronger (they say). What a nightmare! Just when you could see the lights at the end of the tunnel-seriously. They ARE paying for their huge blunder I hope? So I guess the next couple of weeks will be a test to see how long you can go without 'things,' be creative with your extended vacation and do things for free around SLC and hopefully keep a smile on your face all the while? Good luck to Danny with more interviews...and you'll be in our prayers.
Poppy, I'm so sorry. We're going through the same thing. Bill and Mike (malina's husband) and 2 other BYU mba grad's all lost our employment this month at Wipro. I'm so sorry. How stressfull. I'll ask my husband to pass anything on for supply chain. We used to work supply chain in AZ, for Ibiden Corp. They supply to intel, honeywell, those guys. And i think Bechtel is hiring. Good Luck
Life is just full of surprises...just when you think you can start planning...WHAMO! I wish I could help in the job area but we are not doing much better. I am going to be home in July...I think we need to plan some kind of reunion...with Shayla, Noreen, who else could come. Good luck with everything...keep the positive attitude and don't lose your sense of humor. I know you probably don't want to hear this but things usually do work out for the best :)
I was blog surfing and wanted to come on and say how sorry I am that we missed your fun sprinkler day last week because we were packing for a move that didn't happen - we had the truck and my husband tried to put things on it for a move across town to save money...and literally felt stopped by the spirit. It appears that you have an even bigger and more sorrowful tale to tell. We will keep your family in our prayers - you have a smile on life that comes through even in this post - good luck and thankfully there isn't a home in MI that is waiting to be moved into and paid for...a little miracle in the midst of the adversity.
Poppy, I'm so sorry! What an awful thing to have happen just as you're about to leave! I can't even say how shocked and sad I am about the whole thing and just can't believe that any company could actually do that! We are praying hard that something else will open up for you very quickly and that you'll be able to figure it all out. You're in our thoughts and prayers! Good luck!
Ford is lame. Michigan is too far away. You should find a job closer to me. That is what I always thought...hmmm...maybe this is all my fault? I never wanted Danny to not have a job, but I didn't want you to leave! Man, my mind is powerful! You are in our prayers. Arizona and Utah are calling your name.
Poppy,
I'm so sorry. That is unreal. I cannot believe a company would do something like that! I will keep you in our prayers.
Oh Poppy I am truly sorry. That is the worse news ever! I will pray for you guys and hope that this is actually a blessing in disguise! Good luck!
My goodness Poppy- how awful. I think they should pay some sort of something for putting you through this far and then pulling the rug out from under you. That is just wrong. I don't know if ConAgra has supply chain spots but I will tell Kevin to keep an eye out in case he sees or hears of something. What an emotional roller coaster you must have been on- and what a blessing that you didn't buy a house- that was inspired for sure. Well we will pray for you and hopefully the economy gets better so we can all worry a little less.
So everyone is in agreeance... we will never buy a Ford again! Geez Louise!
