That guy is "sick"?

Yesterday at the park the following exchange took place:

Jesse: That skateboarder is "sick"
Me: He's sick?
J: You know like he has good moves, he rocks, he's wicked!
M: Can't you just say cool?
Has "cool" become outdated? Is "sick" the "bad" of today? I don't like that kind of talk coming out of my kid!I told him that I don't like him talking that way.Am I right to say so?
Or should I just let it be?How do you feel about this topic?

*pics from a beautiful fall afternoon at our neighborhood park. I love the view of the mountains from this park.

You probably already know that is exactly how I feel:)
I can't believe Dylan is jumping off of that wall...he seems like such a little monkey!
Did you ever find your plan?:)

I think that word is just fine, but then I've been hanging out around a lot of Young Women lately who say things like that, so I'm used to it. (Slang is such a funny thing because the word used is often the exact opposite meaning of what people who use it are trying to say, but for some reason it still works.) There are a lot worse things that he could be saying, and I'd hold out for putting your foot down on those. I remember when I was a teen my mom told me she'd let me say "crap" because she was sure glad I chose to say that rather than the other 4-letter word I could've picked. You just gotta choose your battles I guess.

I agree with Becky. There are a lot worse words to use, and even though it sounds bad, Jesse was really giving him a compliment. I would be more careful of the derogatory phrases.

I don't have a problem with that one. I guess I have gotten used to the phrase while driving car pool. My kids don't use that phrase yet, but it has been around for a long time. It is the new "bad" of today's times. He was giving the other kid a compliment and I am sure the other kid would feel honered by the comment had he heard it.
