AMA

If you didn't already know, I will fill you in. I had my first Dr's appt. this week and it was very interesting. Apparently, once you reach the ripe old age of 35, you are considered to be of Advanced Maternal Age (AMA) and classified as such. Gee, thanks, as if I wasn't already feeling old and decrepit! Anyway, this classification entitles you to a whole battery of extra tests. This week I will meet with a perinatologist and have an ultrasound followed by some genetic counseling of some sort. I will let you all know how that goes. Luckily for me, they have done away with the routine Amniocenteses for mothers of "my age!" I will not have to be subject to one of those unless something else comes up that there is a need. Good thing, cause that big 'ol needle would freak me out. Just thought you might like to know some of the medical classifications and terminology that I learned this week. I feel it my job to keep you informed!

You are so old.:) That is great medical information, thanks. I'll try not to be pregnant when I'm "your" age:) I just love to tease you. Great picture to go with your post!

Lets see if they can give you a scare like last time. What was it??? Trisomy 18? At any rate. hope you are well. We miss you and your tribe. Want me to send some maternity clothes?:)

Haha! I don't know why, but this totally made me laugh. Something about "Advanced Maternal Age" just sounds so funny. It made me picture old pregnant grandmas or something, which, just so you know, is quite the opposite of how you look.

AMA is what my grandchildren call me. Ask Ben what Ama really means (in Spanish) then you won't mind if anybody calls you that. Love you!

For the record, you're not old in anyone's book, only textbooks! Glad things are going well! Good luck with all of the tests and counseling sessions :)

You are too funny... old and decrepit... not by a long shot young lady! I just wanted to let you know that you have been tagged by me. Check out my blog to see what to do and then tag 5 other people. List 3 joys, 3 fears, 3 obsessions/collections and 3 surprising facts about yourself. Have fun!!

Geepers! AMA, huh? Well...we had to have genetic counseling with our last 2 pregnancies. It was fun to watch the doctor's jaw drop when he quizzed Jeremy about his very large family. :) Hope all goes well! AAAAND...you look too good to be an old lady. :)

You are considered old???? So silly. Technically I could still have a baby, I wonder what they would call a mom of 3 grown kids and a grandma of 1?????
Take care!

I still had to take all those tests even though I wasn't advanced in age because of my miscarraige history. The Amnio was a walk in the park so if you have to do one don't sweat it...and the needle was not that big. Good luck with this one. I remember seeing pix of how puffy your feet get. Have fun with that.

Oh boy, I have to get trillions of tests when I'm pregnant (b/c of the diabetes). I got the amnio, and yes, the needle is freaky!
